River Run's Bugle Boy (Buddy)
(GRHRCH
GMHR Duckin’ Double Bogey X MHR WR SR River Run Black Powder Kate)
Buddy went home with Mike Baker of Triangle Canine to become the
explosive detection dog
for the University of North Caroline.
Hi
Dennis & Gail,
Buddy has been with his new handler for a little over 2 weeks now and is doing
great. He has been imprinted now with about 16 different explosive odors and is
very good at locating them. UNC will be doing a PR thing on him in the near
future and I will send you a copy. I have also requested a picture of him at the
bell tower which I will also send. His handler and I worked him this past
Saturday at Kenan Stadium to check it before the game. It was a lot of work for
him but he did well. We did half of the stadium and gave him 30-45 minutes to
rest and finished the rest although, I believe he would have continued if we had
let him. He was a
pleasure to train. I started getting attached to him and that made it hard to
see him go.
He definitely belongs in a working life.
Let me know when you or
some of your contacts has dogs like Buddy that I can put in the law enforcement
field.
I have evaluated several Labs recently and rejected them all. Buddy has
set the bar high.
Take Care,Mike (09/07)

CONAL
(GMHRCH WR Deep Run
Desperado MH X
MHR WR SR River Run Lady Abigail - Spring '01 litter)
Con is owned, trained, hunted, and loved by Bill Albany,
Springfield, PA

Hello Gail, I keep checking your picture page to see if it is up. I feel like a proud father. I met a guy who guides for a regulated shooting preserve (he has pointers) and he told me that Conal was good enough for their outfit. I took him there a few weeks ago for a chuckar hunt. When the owner saw him work he hired us as part time guides. We took our first group out this past weekend. Con did great. He has a great nose and he cleanly retrieves, heels & delivers to hand.
I could not be happier with this dog.
Tucker and Bell (
Hello Gail, Things are going well up here and we are having a good
hunting season. I can't believe how strong Conal is! Last week we were hunting
geese along the Schuylkill river and the bank was about 6 ft high and 80 degrees
steep. He was bringing birds right up it without them even touching the ground.
I enclosed a couple of new photos.

Hello
Dennis and Gail, Things are going well for Con and I.
We took first place at
the Ocean County Decoy Show Advanced Retriever contest.

Just wanted to let you know that Bell & Tucker are doing fine and growing like
weeds.
Tucker reminds us a lot of Hombre, he's laid back and extremely calm. Bell on
the
other hand has enough energy for the two of them. She is always checking out
everything
around her. Nothing gets past her. We are trying to do some training, but
obviously it has
to be done one at a time. Whenever you get a chance we would like to take you
up on
your offer to bring them down and show us some of the training.
Here they are getting ready for the first day of duck season.

River Run Matterhorn (GMHR

River Run Black Powder Kate Fall '02)
Mattie is owned and cherished
by the Mark Mazo family from Chevy Chase, MD
Mattie is the dark chocolate and our Teal's best friend (7 wks old)
All grown up and
still best friends.
I just wanted to thank you again for your help with Mattie. What a refined lady
she has become! She is just delightful to be with. She is not jumping or biting,
and instead will sit with us for long periods of time. When I take her for walks
(which is often) she will "heal" without a problem. Mattie is doing a good job
retrieving as well. And she is so affectionate. She is getting
lots of attention, particularly during the weekend when we're home most of the
day. I know Mattie misses Teal, but she seems to be doing well. Mattie
appears happy, and happily she is not jumping on us now to let us know.
(Note: Mattie returned several time to stay while her family was
traveling. We had the pleasure of obedience training her. She is an awesome
young dog. Mattie always surprised us with how much she remembered us between
visits and easily responded to advanced training. She was as eager as our girls
when it came time to head out to the fields & ponds for gun dog training. She
could keep up with Teal and her marking abilities was absolutely amazing
considering she had little training in that area. During her stay she and Teal
were inseparable.)

River Run Jasper
Jax (GMHR
Southland Leroy Brown X
MHR
WR
SR
River Run Black Powder Kate Fall '02)
Adopted by Jeanne Harem, Pelham, AL
It's been a
while since I last wrote to you, but everything is going great with Jax. Every
night I go to bed and think about how lucky I am to have such a great dog. There
is absolutely nothing that he can't do. We are about ready to compete in the
obedience ring and am ready to be certified in tracking. In addition to these
two things, Jax is also doing agility and will be ready for competition once he is
old enough. Our local fly ball club keeps begging us to join because Jax loves
retrieving so much. If I knew what I was doing, Jax would have been ready a long
time ago to compete. I really wish I knew how to train him for field trials
because I
am confident he could do really well. Jax was
absolutely the perfect puppy
who never cried
in his cage and was always ready and willing to do
anything. It wasn't until I saw other people's puppies that I realized what a
fantastic job you did socializing my puppy. I don't think I could ever thank you
enough for allowing me to be part of this dog's life. We will be in the area
with the next few months and would love to drop by and see you.
Update on Jax (October 21, 2003) Gail and Dennis, I
still need to say thank you for allowing me to have one of your puppies out of
last year's breeding of Kate and Leroy Brown. Jax is absolutely the most perfect
dog and is loved by everyone that meets him. We are still training for our
obedience title (I won top scores every time I walked into the ring) and for our
utility title. We also compete in agility, fly ball, and tracking. I guess you
can say that Jax has become a typical urban dog, except for the fact that he
really loves to hunt. I'm not sure what I did before Jax was part of my life.
Well, I have decided that its time for another puppy and would really like to
have the remaining black male from the litter that was just born. I
will call tonight to discuss.

SR
River Run's Teka Wood
(GMHR
Southland Leroy Brown X
MHR
WR
SR
River Run Black Powder Kate Fall '02)
Adopted by Jeff & Joann & Cara Jordan, Exeter, NH

Dennis and Gail,
Here
is a picture of Teka after she qualified on Saturday for the first two passes for her NAHRA
Started Retriever title. She did excellent! Even the water retrieve where she
ran the bank and did a "fly-by" for the gallery before delivering to hand, she
did with style. Teka was the youngest dog at 9 months. On Saturday 9 out of 15
qualified and on Sunday 10 out of 19 qualified. Teka's accomplishment is a
testimony to the fantastic natural instincts these pedigrees provide. Teka is an
absolute joy to have in the house but as soon as she knows we are going to get
some birds her intensity level goes up 100 fold. She absolutely hates waiting in
the blind. Teka just knows she can do a better job of getting those birds than
any other dog. What I love though is as we come out of the blind she settles
right down and is all business. She is already steady at the line, even to live
flyers. We thank you again for this awesome pup!
KUDOS
for Teka!!! She qualified two weeks later for her Started Retriever title at the
age of 10 months.
Congratulations Jeff for a job well done!

River Run's Charlie Brown (GMHR Southland Leroy Brown X MHR WR SR River Run Black Powder Kate Summer '04)
Hi Dennis and Gail,
How are you? Dave and I would like to thank you for our handsome chocolate lab named Charlie Brown. He will be 15 months old the 26th of August. He is a great addition to our family and I wanted to thank you. He is very lovable and affectionate with a great disposition. Dave will be taking Charlie hunting for the first time in a couple of months. I am sure he will do wonderful. We are sorry to hear about Leroy Brown, Charlie's dad. He will definitely be in our hearts forever. We recently got a German Short Hair Pointer we named Gus. It looks like they will be friends forever!
Sincerely,
Staci and Dave Bacon
